Professional Song Demos
Every professional songwriter needs a high-quality demo recording to pitch their songs to industry professionals. At Royal Master Records, we provide top-notch demo recordings that showcase your song in the best possible light, making it attractive to recording artists and their representatives. A demo recording is essential for getting your song “cut,” which means it is officially recorded by an artist for commercial release. Producing a professional demo is a critical step in your songwriting career.
Music Publishing
A music publisher owns the rights to a song. If your song is not signed with a music publisher, you are considered “self-published” and must pitch your song yourself. Self-publishing involves maintaining a detailed catalog of your songs, including who you pitched them to, when, and the response received. This record-keeping is crucial for any professional songwriter and serves as proof of ownership and creation dates.
If a music publisher is interested in your song, they will ask you to sign a Songwriter/Publishing Contract, usually for a term of two years. It is important to ensure that the contract includes a reversion clause, allowing the rights to revert to you if the publisher does not secure a recording within the contract period.
Pitching Your Song
Once you have a great demo recording from Royal Master Records, you need to strategically decide which recording artist to pitch your song to. This involves researching the artist’s record label, finding out who their producer is, and contacting the label’s A&R department. You should ask what type of song they are looking for and when the artist is scheduled to record. Submit your song about three weeks before their recording session, including lyrics and a note indicating it is “requested material.”
Additional Opportunities
In addition to pitching to recording artists, you can submit your song to advertising agencies, movie producers, and TV producers. Networking and attending industry events can also help get your songs noticed, although timing and persistence are key.
Our Role as a Music Publisher
At Royal Master Records, we have been in business for over 50 years and manage a vast catalog of songs. We do not sign every song we record to our publishing arm, as it would not be fair to the songwriter. A good publisher pitches a song every two or three weeks to different record labels or artists. We pitch songs personally, either directly or through producers, and follow up diligently to maximize exposure.
How We Pitch Your Song
We conduct most of our business with recording artists and producers in person and in private. Artists often spend a year searching for songs for their albums, listening to hundreds of tracks to select the best ones. This is why having a high-quality demo recording is vital. Your song receives significant exposure even before it leaves our recording studio, thanks to our network of industry professionals, including award-winning sound engineers and musicians.
Respecting Privacy and Professionalism
While we do not share personal contact information of artists and producers, we will pitch your song to a specific artist if we believe it is a good match and the timing is right. Our goal is to ensure your song reaches the right ears in the best possible way.
No Guarantees, Only Opportunities
The music business is unpredictable, and there are no guarantees that your song will be selected or lead to financial success. Any company that promises otherwise is not being honest. However, at Royal Master Records, we provide the tools, expertise, and opportunities to give your song the best chance to succeed in the competitive music industry.
